200W-follower influencer defames Yuan Longping's hybrid rice breeding technology, banned indefinitely; state media condemns pseudo-science misleading the public

On June 28, @Douyin Bulletin reposted news about a "200W-follower influencer defaming Yuan Longping's rice breeding technology" and reported: the account posted false information deliberately disrupting social and economic development order and easily causing public panic, violating the Douyin Community Self-Discipline Convention, and has been banned indefinitely.

The influencer involved is an agricultural influencer with over 2 million followers across platforms, under the banner of "Protecting Old Seeds".

It is understandable for a person to become an influencer based on knowledge. However, this influencer, whether he has real talent or not, his "ability" to talk nonsense is truly outstanding. According to reports, he openly called Yuan Longping's "three-line hybrid technology" "abnormal hybridization" and "pathological hybridization" in a video, and called "male sterility" "fear that after eating, people will become infertile like mules", fiercely attacking breeding technology.

It should be noted that this influencer used the logic of "male sterility" in rice to deduce that "hybrid rice causes infertility in humans," which is completely unscientific and ridiculous. As netizens retorted: the greatest "sin" of these new varieties is that they make people like you too full!

Discussion based on scientific knowledge is certainly meaningful, but such baseless and fabricated accusations completely deviate from common sense and ethics, and are despicable. To slander the revered Mr. Yuan Longping in this way is absolutely intolerable.

It goes without saying that this influencer deserves punishment for his unwarranted defamation and wanton slander.

Notably, this influencer's behavior reflects a major problem: in recent years, some agricultural influencers have been advocating "natural farming" and "green agriculture," but at the same time demonizing recognized achievements in agricultural science, causing great public misunderstanding.

A closer look shows that these influencers, on one hand, use seemingly serious but absurd "new knowledge" to deceive people, aiming to harvest traffic and "grow" themselves. For example, some fabricated "knowledge" that corn with more than 12 rows of "teeth" is problematic, and that purple corn that fades when boiled is dyed, attracting attention and spreading. It must be said that after clever packaging, such "new knowledge" has a deceptive power that cannot be ignored. The perpetrators are precisely trying to gain more audience through "explosive news," with a very cunning intention; on the other hand, they spread pseudoscience to fool farmers and sell problematic "agricultural supplies." In August 2025, CCTV's "Financial Investigation" exposed fraud where fake agricultural experts harm farmers. The perpetrators used fake personas to lure farmers into paying for unsupported "farming tips" and defective products.

Thus, the actions of the aforementioned influencer are by no means an isolated case. Behind it, there are more fake agricultural experts acting perversely. We must be highly vigilant about this chaos and take decisive measures to curb it. On one hand, platforms need to strengthen review and supervision, expose those "fake experts" and drive them out; on the other hand, we should also increase the promotion of scientific knowledge to eliminate public confusion and prevent them from being deceived.

In conclusion, only by vigorously criticizing fallacies from multiple levels and ways and eradicating the soil for rumor-mongering can those malicious bloggers or "experts" lose their "market."
